About me
Hello and welcome!
This idea has been a long time in the making, but finally it’s here. So, who am I? My name is Ruth Clyndes, I’m English and a native English speaker. Being an English teacher I need to be pretty good at English. I understand how it works and I know what it takes to both teach English and learn it. So, after nearly 13 years of teaching experience I now want to have all the material I’ve accumulated and used, and continue to use, and share it more widely
So where did Rooting4ew come from? I’ve been in South America for many years now, but unfortunately although ‘Ruth’ is also used in Spanish, it’s obviously not pronounced with the ‘th’ sound so I’m used to hearing my name as Root. To ‘root’ for someone also means to encourage someone and cheer them along so it seemed pretty apt. The word ‘root’ is also connected to plants, it’s the part that grows downwards anchoring the plant above which also serves here as giving us a found foundation. I’m afraid I can’t take credit for the name though. My thanks must go to Hannah for coming up with the idea. I’d also like to thank Gonzalo Puga Larraín for the photographs and Fabiola Roes for the webpage design. So here we go…let’s get to the root of English.

Esta idea ha tardado mucho en elaborarse, pero finalmente está aquí. ¿Entonces, quién soy yo? Mi nombre es Ruth Clyndes, ciudadana Inglesa y soy un hablante nativo de inglés. Como profesora de inglés, necesito ser bastante buena en inglés. Entiendo cómo funciona y sé lo que se necesita tanto para enseñar inglés como para aprenderlo. Entonces, después de casi 13 años de experiencia en la enseñanza, ahora quiero tener todo el material que he acumulado y compartirlo más ampliamente.
Entonces, ¿de dónde vino Rooting4ew? He estado en Sudamérica durante muchos años, pero desafortunadamente, aunque “Ruth” también se usa en español, obviamente no se pronuncia con el sonido “th”, así que estoy acostumbrado a escuchar mi nombre como Root. “Apoyar” a alguien también significa animar a alguien y animarlo, por lo que parece bastante apropiado. La palabra “raíz” también está relacionada con las plantas, es la parte que crece hacia abajo anclando la planta por encima, lo que también sirve aquí para darnos una base sólida. Sin embargo, me temo que no puedo atribuirme el mérito del nombre. Mi agradecimiento debe ir a Hannah por tener la idea. También me gustaría dar las gracias Gonzalo Puga Larraín para las fotos y Fabiola Roes para el diseño de la página web. Así que aquí vamos … vayamos a la raíz del inglés.
